The YazikRecorder: installation

  • If you use the deb packages with a debian or ubuntu box, it's quite easy: follow the instructions given on the download page.
  • In the other cases, you'll have to get the sources on svn: http://www.yojik.eu/svn, yazik2 module. put the sources in a directory of your choice. Go in the yazik2 directory, and type:

python yazikrecorder.py

What you'll have to take in attention are the dependencies: you need the full gstreamer library and plugins, and some python modules. If they are missing, you'll get a message on the terminal. Install thoses libraries and in fine, everything will work.

Using the YazikRecorder

Launch the program: You'll see shortly the splashscreen while creating the directory structure. The main screen shows up.

Main window

The main window consists of 4 notebook pages: we will see how to fill the different entries.

  • First page:
We have 3 entries: the biggest one is devoted to enter your list of words/phrases, either directly in the text window, either by drag and drop from the file manager if you allready prepared a list of words (utf-8 encoded).
You may add comments embedded in the list; theses comments begin with the "#" car: everything past this car i ignored. The comments are saved with the list.
Another way to get the list is to use the "open" button in the toolbar which will lauch a filemanager: choose your list and validate.
So, we have 3 different ways to get a list of words: directly in tehe window, by drag and drop, and with the filemanager.
2 more entries have to be filled:
  • the entry "language": is used to specify the language of the words/phrases list (russina words or french words): you cannot enter what you want: the code used is the ISO code of the language. You may see the coding by cliquing on the "..." button on the right of the entry; by double-clicking on an element in the list which appears, the corresponding item will fill the entry. Don't forget to validate by clicking on "enter". If the code doesnt exist (manual entry), the entry field will be surrounded by a red line. It will not be possible to save your projetc until this entry is correct.
  • Just below, you have a button which specify if you want to record only the new words or record all the words again. Some words can be shared with different lists.
  • Second page:
Here are all entries which are related to the locutor, as well as the copyright and licence which apply to the recordings.
  • Fisrt entry: locutor's name: this field has a completion facility: if you allready entered a locutor's profile, a list will be presented. Choose the right one in the list or enter a new one. If you choose an allready entered, all fields will be completed.
  • Second entry: the town where the locutor lieves.
  • Third entry: the country where lieves the locutor. (here also, you cannot enter what you want: the code is the ISO code: click on the "..." button on the right to have a valid list. A double-click let you choose the one you want. By typping the first letter, the list will be shorted approprietly.
  • Forth entry: gender.
  • Fith entry: birth year.
  • Sixth entry: locutor's mother tongue (same remark : use the ISO code).
  • Seventh entry: where in the country is living the locutor.
  • heitgth entry: where the locutor acquired the language (same remark than before about the ISO code).
